A small whānau owned business providing rural fencing for the Whanganui-Ruapehu region.

Managing Director, Jamie Hughes, grew up running fence lines with his father as a young boy in the Waitotara Valley where he mastered vital fencing skills quite young but desired an understanding of stock movement and management to better his craft.

Reputable mentoring from Ruapehu farmers over the last 10+ years as a shepherd and stock manager saw him return to fencing with better knowledge of efficient yard design, fencing systems, trusted relationships and standards of service.

The result is a unique product, working closely with farmers, staff and their animals to create functional, effective and safe systems for stock management. We use a combination of innovation, stock sense, specialised techniques, equipment and boast over 20 years experience in the industry.

Hughes Contracting is lead by Jamie Hughes who has extensive experience on the land that extends over 20 years.

We have a two-strong team and lead a network of local fencing contractors who work collectively to service the region’s fencing needs.

We keep our team small to support healthy skills development in our staff and to sustain the gold standard quality of product our team is well known for.
